AnarBib Debian 13

Esperanto • Français • English • Español

Minimal Debian 13 image to deploy AnarBib on a VM, VPS, or bare-metal server.

The image boots without a desktop environment and automatically launches a persistent terminal setup assistant on the main console. The assistant installs the operating system on the primary drive upon confirmation, sets up the local user account, configures the hostname and timezone, and reboots into the installed system.

Architecture

  • Debian 13 "trixie" (amd64 architecture)
  • Headless system optimized for self-hosted instances
  • SSH, Docker, Compose, and Ansible Core pre-installed
  • Persistent terminal installation assistant launched automatically from ISO
  • Persistent disk installation with EFI, ext4, and GRUB support
  • AnarBib deployment started automatically on first boot
  • Custom TTY1 local console and SSH banners (network access, SSH, admin username and password)
  • Automatic nightly Debian and AnarBib updates (anarbib-update.timer)
  • Embedded AnarBib source tree in /opt/anarbib
  • Reference installer: /opt/anarbib/install.sh

Automatic and Manual Updates

The installed system includes an automated and secure update mechanism:

  • Automatic Nightly Updates: The anarbib-update.timer unit triggers /usr/local/sbin/anarbib-auto-update every night at 06:30. It applies Debian security patches, pulls the configured Docker images, recreates only affected containers while preserving their volumes, then synchronizes AnarBib (pending SQL migrations, edge functions, resources, and front build).
  • Manual Single-Command Update:
    sudo anarbib-auto-update

  • Update Logs:
    tail -f /var/log/anarbib-update.log

  • Update Channel (Stable Releases vs Development Branch): By default, the system follows the main development branch. To lock the machine onto official release tags (v*) in production:
echo "tag" | sudo tee /var/lib/anarbib/track_channel

To switch back to following the main branch:
echo "branch" | sudo tee /var/lib/anarbib/track_channel

  • Disabling the Automatic Timer (if manual control is preferred):
    sudo systemctl disable --now anarbib-update.timer

Building the ISO

The build machine requires live-build, xorriso, and Debian build packages for amd64:

./scripts/build-iso.sh

The ISO file is generated in the repository root.
